Canberra Royal Corgis On Show

The Royal Canberra Show, Canberra’s largest all-ages event, is staged annually by the Royal National Capital Agricultural Society. With agriculture at its core, the Show has evolved into a vibrant celebration of “city meeting country and country meeting city,” blending tradition, education and entertainment in one of the region’s most significant annual events.

In 2026, members of the Welsh Corgi Club of New South Wales proudly represented our breeds across the RAS Championship Show and the Group Specialty Show conducted as part of the Royal program. Participation at a Royal carries particular prestige — the ringside audience is broader, the atmosphere distinctive, and the competition often strong and varied.

While the highest awards proved elusive in the main classes this year, there were still significant moments of achievement. A highlight of the Royal Championship Show was the Pembroke Corgi Neuter Dog, CH. Neut. CH. Pricewey Casonova SWN, who was awarded Best Neuter In Group — an outstanding accomplishment at Royal-level competition.

Equally exciting at the Royal National Capital Agricultural Society Group Specialty Show was the success of Pembroke Velcalle Song Of The Valkyrie At Aziah (AI), awarded Minor Puppy In Group — a remarkable achievement for such a young exhibit on a Royal stage, and a thrilling indication of the promise, presence and quality emerging for the future of the breed.

Sincere congratulations to their proud owners, Lisa McGinn, and Victoria Lee and Liana Bettison.

For our Welsh Cardigan Corgis, the results reflected the subjectivity inherent in our sport. In the RAS show, no Challenge was awarded in the Bitch class — a reminder that conformation judging ultimately rests in the opinion of the officiating judge on the day.

Royal Shows test not only quality, but perspective. They ask exhibitors to accept decisions with grace, to return the following day with optimism, and to continue presenting their dogs with pride. That spirit of sportsmanship was evident among our members throughout the event.

Participation itself remains significant. Each entry contributes to breed visibility, public education, and the ongoing presence of Welsh Corgis at major agricultural shows. For that commitment alone, every exhibitor deserves recognition.

🏆 A special acknowledgment must also go to our Club member David Dawes (Dawco) for his outstanding contribution as part of the Show Committee. David played a central role in managing the event to ensure it ran smoothly and efficiently, supporting judges and stewards while keeping the competition timetable on track. Seemingly everywhere at once, he was seen assisting exhibitors, answering questions and quietly solving problems. His experience and unflappable manner provided reassurance not only on Corgi day, but throughout the duration of the Show.

🎖️ Until The Next Show

Judging will always remain beyond our control. Each show gives, and each show takes. That is the nature of our sport.

As breeders and exhibitors, we move forward with dignity and resolve. Every time we step into the ring it is a learning curve — for dog and handler alike — regardless of experience, level of competition, or the colour of the ribbon received. Growth does not come only from wins; it comes from presentation, preparation, observation and reflection.

This is why we show. These are the challenges we accept.

The balm for disappointment — or even non-awards — is the quiet understanding and encouragement of fellow exhibitors who know precisely how a show day can unfold. Within that shared experience lies the true strength of our community.

With the agricultural show circuit now winding toward its culmination at the Sydney Royal Dog Show, we look ahead with renewed focus, determination and pride — ready to step once more into the ring.
